Song Contest

The Penguin Song Contest follows the rules of an “Iron Filker” songwriting competition. A surprise topic and word list will be announced at the opening of the con on Friday. Contestants have the weekend to write, and the songs are presented on Sunday (exact time dependent on scheduling).

Rules

  1. Your song must include at least three verses and a chorus. Bridges are optional, like tusks.
  2. Songs can be original lyrics and music or new lyrics set to existing music.
  3. The entry must incorporate all words in the list released on Friday at the con. One of the words will always be “penguin.”
  4. Penguins may be harmed in the lyrics but we here at FilKONtario are fond of penguins, so whimsical penguin peril should be employed where possible.

Procedure

Signup sheets will be made available on Friday evening at the opening of the con, on a first come, first served basis. The number of entries permitted may be limited, so be sure to sign up early. You must sign up on the physical signup sheet at the con in order to be entered into the contest.

Entry order will be randomized after signups close.

Lyrics must be submitted by 10:00 a.m. on Sunday.

All entrants must be present at the beginning of the contest to claim their place in the lineup.

The contest is judged by audience vote. To judge the contest you must be present for all songs, and to receive a ballot you must be in the hall when the contest begins.

Latecomers will be admitted but may or may not receive a ballot. This will be decided by the Penguins in charge.

One person, one ballot.

Entrants may vote, provided they are present for the majority of the contest.

Come early and be prepared to be entertained.
