Interfilk is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, incorporated in the state of California. Their mission is to promote cultural exchange within the filk community by sending notable guests to conventions in areas distant from their home region; they fund travel, convention costs, and accommodation. Every year, they sponsor one of FilKONtario’s three headlining performers. You can learn more about Interfilk on their website.
To support and fundraise for Interfilk, many filk conventions around the world host an auction as part of their programming. FilKONtario’s Interfilk auction takes place on Saturday evening at the convention, auctioning off the strange, the silly, the bizarre, the wonderful, and the truly one-of-a-kind items donated by the filk community. Items are run about the convention floor and bidders are encouraged to shout out higher numbers by volunteer “Interfilk Wenches” (a designation which in this case is gender-neutral). More information on what to expect at an Interfilk auction can be found on this page.
Auctioned items may be filk- or music-related, geeky, vintage, fandom-related, or anything else that is otherwise of interest to the filk community. To make a donation to the Interfilk auction, bring your item to the Interfilk table at the con on Friday, or on Saturday morning before the auction. If you have any questions, please reach out to the concom at filkontarioinfo@gmail.com.
