For 2021 the Filk Community has inducted:
to the Filk Hall of Fame
A huge thank you to everyone who participated in BTC/FK-NO this weekend. Fabulous music and great workshops by all. It was so good to see all of you and spend time with our filk family. Congratulations to the FHoF inductees and special thanks to the BTC crew who made this a con to remember. So many new voices heard and old friends seen. Thank you all!
If you are seeking the YouTube version of BTC/FK-NO it is on the FilKOntarioLive channel:
or search for filkontariolive on YouTube. The streams are archived if you are in a distant time zone or if you have a friend that MUST hear something.
This year the penguin song contest had a new twist. In keeping with the renewed popularity of sea shanties, we challenged our songwriters to create a sea shanty with the word “penguin” in it.
Summer Russell – The Famous Frobisher
Jeff Urs – Up Anchor, Arthur Gordon Pym
Chris Clarke – Exiles, Thieves and Fools
As soon as we get permission from the writers we will post the lyrics to these great songs here.
For inspiration, the Con-com has written a teaser for FK-NO 2 in sea shanty form.

Hello to our filk family on behalf of the FilKONtario/FilKONtari-NO committee,
So here we are almost a week out from FK-NO 2/HelioSPHERE and we are almost ready… we think. <g>
We will be posting information you will definitely want to check over the next several days…. Lets see…
The schedule will be going up and you will be able to see who we are featuring this year, and when. Trust me, we have some amazing people from around the globe; England, Germany, France, and Australia; to name just a few.
We will be posting signup sheets on the FKO website for the Friday fifteen minute sign-up slots. They will be going up Saturday, April 3, 12:00pm Eastern Standard time. The slots are first come, first served and we will include a waiting list, just in case some slots open up. If you would like a sound check before we start the con please email email@example.com
We will be posting signup sheets for the song contest at the same time – the Theme is “The Light at the End of the Tunnel?”
We won’t be posting the guidelines/words and signup for the Penguin Song Contest till Thursday April 8, 12:00pm Eastern Standard time. Just to let you all know, we are changing it up a little this year, so be sure to check it out.
Humm… what else do you need to know ahead of the show?
Ah yes… The all important Zoom links will be on posted FilKONtario.ca as a graphic, and on Facebook at FilKONtari-NO and Filk Bytes. We will be posting them by Friday April 9, 12:00pm Eastern Standard time.
Please note: as we needed more time to fit in some sign-up slots after merging with HelioSPHERE, we are actually starting the music at 1:00 pm EST, two hours ahead of opening ceremonies. So mark you calendar!
Looking forward to “seeing” you.
Hi everyone from FK-NO, the FK-NO Committee hope you are all well and staying safe!
We know that we recently sent out a PR, but we feel you need to know that things have changed for the planning of FK-NO over the last few week.
After we put out our last message, we were contacted by Marc Grossman on behalf of HELIOsphere. Their convention is scheduled for the same weekend. and they were in the process of putting together an entire filk track with its own zoom session alongside their general track… Oops!
We are almost a month out, and we both had people lined up. Although they have offered to move to the following weekend, we have decided to collaborate, and merge their filk track with ours.
Please bear with us, as we know that some things may have to change, or be dropped. Each convention will present their own performers under the conditions with which they were originally approached, as we feel that it is very important to respect each groups autonomy even as we are working together.
Over the next few weeks we may be going back to people we have contacted for a concert, to confirm if they are able to take part at their suggested time, or, if needed, ask if they can move to another time slot. As both conventions are attempting to bring in lots of interesting folks from around the globe we hope it will be as interesting to listen to, as it is to accomplish!
The entire filk program will be published on our website and Facebook pages, together with HELIOsphere’s general programming.
Please wish us luck in figuring this out, because if we do, we feel it will end up being an outstanding event!
As always, we will still be hosting The Hall of Fame on Sunday afternoon.
We are including the message Liz Crefin, HELIOsphere’s chair is sending out with our own.
Please note: If you think you may wish to attend any of the HELIOsphere programming, please go to HELIOsphere’s website at www.heliosphereny.org to register at no cost. Please remember that while we may know who you are, they might not.
Also note that FK-NO is NOT intending to have a registration at this time.
With regards from the FK-NO and HELIOsphere committees.
Sally Headford, FK-NO
— A message from the Heliosphere ConCom —-
We are happy to announce that 2 virtual conventions have decided to join forces.
FilKONtario, which runs the virtual FK-NO, and HELIOsphere, which runs the virtual Beyond the Corona(BTC), will be running a joint schedule April 9-11, 2021.
After finding ourselves on the same weekend, we are happy that we are able to offer our attendees an expanded program.
Registering for either convention gives you access to the programming available on both. Registration is free and you can register on either site. FK-NO will be running the filk portion of the program with help from Marc Grossman of HELIOsphere. BTC will be running a primarily fantasy and sci-fi program.
Schedule links will be sent out to all registered participants. For more information please see our websites, HELIOsphere and https://filkontario.ca

April 8-10, 2022
Hi to all our community far and wide in these challenging times from the FilKONtario committee. As previously announced, FilKONtario 31 will be virtual again this year. FilKONtari-NO 2 is scheduled for the weekend of April 9 – 11.
We have a lot more planned for our second FK-NO than for the quickly thrown together one last year!. What a difference a year of on-line convention experience makes!
There will be at least a dozen concerts of various lengths. More information will come as soon as we receive confirmation that the various artists are able to take part.
We wish to celebrate the global community and the music we create, and to that end we are casting a wide net to include people from all around the world. The one wonderful thing about the online events is how easy it has been to attend any convention from any part of our planet.
We will also have a large number of short concerts available for signup a week or so out from the con. First come, first served. These will only be fifteen minute slots, but we want as many folks as possible to take part. (We felt that that worked really well last year.)
There will also be theme filks, workshops, and song contests, and Sunday will feature The Filk Hall of Fame.
The theme for this year’s song contest is “The Light at the End of the Tunnel”.
Take care, stay safe.
On behalf of the FKO committee,
It will come as no surprise to any of you that we have decided to go virtual again for this year’s FilKONtario. Indeed, we expect this to continue until we are sure we are able to hold another live convention safely. Hopefully in 2022!
Please note: we are looking at changing the dates for FilKONtari-NO 2 from March 19 – 21, we will let you know as soon as we are sure.
Last year’s virtual con was a stopgap measure that, at the time, we considered a blip and not an actual FKO. Now we are working on FilKONtari-NO 2 and are hoping to bring you a hybrid of what was planned for FKO 30, and what was in the pipeline for FKO 31. Or maybe we’ll come up with something else entirely!
We will start planning in the new year, and shall see what the fertile minds of the FKO committee can come up with.
We have a Facebook group called FilKONtari-NO, which all members of our community are invited to join. We will be posting information there, on the FilKONtario Facebook page and the FKO website…. as well as on other social media.
We will update as things are decided, so keep an eye on those sources as we start putting things together and have information and programming to share.
We have started a link page with links to dealers, performers and upcoming online concerts.
Find it here.
