Debbie started singing in church when she was kindergarten-age and just never stopped… piano lessons started in elementary school, and voice and piano continued through college. At some point, she realized guitars were a lot easier to carry around than pianos and picked up guitar out of self-defense. Never quite coordinated enough for drum kit, she fell in love with djembe, and West African percussion in general, and that’s how she met Sally Childs-Helton, which eventually led to the ultimate configuration of Wild Mercy. Starting out playing mostly Celtic music, Wild Mercy led Debbie to filk and fandom, and here we are. 😃 She loves music as a social endeavor, which will be obvious in her concert line-up, which may start off solo but will not stay that way. Debbie is looking forward to being back at FKO and her only regret is that her Canadian-breed puppy will not be able to come along for the trip!
